How to start a working group to grow All for Climate 🌱🌻
Objective 🎯
Our goal is to enable anyone with a good idea to develop the All for Climate DAO to start a working group, find people to join, contribute, and deliver. All of that in a decentralized and transparent way.
Seasons 🍃 ❄️ 🌱 ☀️
To give a rhythm, we embrace the concept of seasons. Season 0 was in 2021.
Season 1 starts in January 2022 and ends at the end of June 2022.
Season 2 will start in September 2022. We want to make sure we give ourselves some regen time between seasons. How can we ask the world to be more sustainable if we are not sustainable ourselves?
Process 👣
This is a quite generic process. It’s just good practice to make sure that your idea can turn into a great project that will have an impact in the world.
1. Share your idea and refine it 💡
Ideas are fragile and never come fully formed. Share your idea, get feedback and include it to make your idea better. Refine it and identify what should be part of the first iteration. There are always plenty of other things that can be done but the key here is to identify the first minimum viable product, the first step that will put everything in motion. You can share ideas of where this could go next, but focus on the concrete immediate next steps.
2. Make a proposal 📝
Once you have some agreement on what you would like to do, it’s time to formalize it a bit and get commitments from people that want to be involved. Share a proposal, invite people to sign up to take up a role and commit on the time they can spend on this project. Define a budget (it is always helpful to have two numbers: ideally and minimum needed to get started) and deliverables: what will be different after your project is completed.
3. Selection process 🗳
If you applied to be part of a season, the contributors of All for Climate will vote to select the 3-5 projects that will get funding (depending on our capacity).
If you are selected, you will receive 200 DAI per month for 3-6 months to be the locomotive of the project. You can also apply for extra budget depending on the needs of your project. But we want to make sure that your work as a locomotive is rewarded. Otherwise it’s also often too tempting to use all the money for your budget and forget that you too need to eat!
4. Get to work 💪
Work on your project. Make sure you organize regular calls to get everyone in your working group in sync. Don’t forget to give regular updates to the outside world. Don’t overthink them, it could be as simple as sharing a few photos from your activity, screenshots of your online call, a quick demo that you recorded, ... It will also get people excited. Good for team spirit!
5. Report 📝
Nobody likes bureaucratic reporting that has to fit a certain template, takes hours, and (almost) nobody reads. Those were meant for hierarchies. There aren’t any here.
So reporting is first and foremost for you and the community for which you did the project in the first place. Share a summary of what you’ve done (re-use the tidbits you shared along the way in step 4), write a blog post or make a video. Share what you learned. What worked, what didn’t. Make sure you include everyone who has contributed. E.g. allforclimate.mirror.xyz/TueJLwHiwbPVtY…
6. Regen 🌱
The future of work has more to do with athletes or artists than the old regular 9-5 office work. That means that there will be times of rush and excitement where you will deliver a big effort, and times to relax, recharge your batteries, regen, celebrate the work that you have done with others and enjoy.

We raised $14k as part of the Gitcoin Climate GR12. Until we have more visibility on future fundraisings, we want to start with a conservative budget of $6k for season 1.

Fiscal host
I’m now part of a project, but I need to get paid, or at least get my expenses covered.
That’s why we have a shared non profit that enables various projects / collectives to receive and disburse funds for their activities. There are today 140 collectives. This requires ongoing maintenance work to process expenses submitted (in 2021, 825 expenses have been paid, so that’s about 15-20 expenses per week), supporting collectives with fundraising, following up contracts and managing the mailbox.
This also includes onboarding new collectives (one 30 minute zoom call).

Next steps
Apply to be a locomotive, share more about what you think the next train station should be (milestone). Try to already gather some contributors and put their name.
Note: there can be more than one locomotive and you can be the locomotive for max 2 projects.
If a project doesn’t have at least one locomotive, we will put it on the back burner until someone shows up to take the lead.
We will do a call on Monday January 24th to review the applications and approve the first list of projects. Each locomotive will start getting 200 DAI per month for the next 3 to 6 months.

What is the role of a locomotive? 🚂
It’s the driving force of a working group. It doesn’t have to be the person who has the original idea (but could be). It’s the person that ensures that all the cars are on the same track and pulls them to the next station, where they can all share the status, what’s working, what’s not and what to do next. They also make sure that every meeting is recorded in a same ongoing Google Doc (e.g. All for Climate DAO - meeting notes).
